The Princess Diaries
Motormouth
This scene occurs just before Mia and Queen Clarisse go have tea in the
garden, where Clarisse tells Mia that she is the princess of Genovia.
Mia asks Clarisse if she were called by any nicknames while going to
school. Clarisse tells Mia that she talks way too fast. Mia
makes a reference to this scene in her speech at the end of the movie.
A
Secret Place
This scene would have been the first time we saw Mia and Joe go to the
roof of the school. Mia sits behind the bleachers while Joe plays
basketball. Later on, Michael comes up to the roof to talk to Mia.
Like
A Puppet
This actually is an extended version of the scene in which Mia tells Lilly
that she cannot help her that afternoon, because she has a 'Grandma
thing'. Lilly's rants over Mia being captured by the 'big bad wolf'
are dubbed over footage of Mia as a puppet. Lilly's rants are also
extended, where she says that Mia is like her grandmother's puppet, always
running off for her grandmother at every whim. This scene ends with
Mia skidding into the consulate parlor, when Clarisse introduces Mia to
Paolo the stylist.
Spot
Removal
This scene takes place after Mia's big transformation. She is
heading home, and her History teacher, Mr. O'Connell is at her house with
her mother. He gets paint on his shirt, and has to take it off so
that Helen can clean it. Mia walks in just after Mr. O'Connell takes
off his shirt, and the scene becomes really awkward.
Egg
Slicer
This is a brief scene that takes place at the state dinner. The very
drunk Lord Fricker uses a harp to slice his egg into his salad.
Banana
Beach
This takes place at the Baker Beach Bash. Mia and Josh Bryant are
sitting on the beach, and Josh tells Mia that he is so popular that he can
get everyone to copy everything he does. He demonstrates this by
making up a ridiculous 'banana' dance, where people toss bananas into the
air while dancing.
News
Report
This was supposed to be Lana's 'come uppance', according to the
director. It begins with the TV reporter Suki Sanchez, who announces
that Lana is not the friend she made herself out to be. The Grove
High School cheerleaders raise their batons in honor of Mia, who walks
past them, bewildered by the fact that they're not making fun of
her. Lana drops her baton sarcastically and walks off in a
huff. Then Suki displays some amazing baton twirling skills.
Who
Is That Pizza Man?
This scene involves Mia and Michael having pizza together. The
director plays the man who serves them their pizza. This is where
Mia and Michael realize that it is possible that they could be more than
friends.
The Princess Diaries
2: Royal Engagement
The
Queen & Maurice
This scene takes place after the session of Parliament, where the deadline
for Mia's marriage is set. The Queen is sitting in the throne room
with Maurice at her side, when Mia comes up, telling her about the secret
room she found. This scene comes up right before Mia wonders 'how
does Parliament expect me to find love in thirty days?'
Pear
Picking
As established in the first movie, one of Genovia's biggest imports is
pears. So therefore, one of the Genovian traditions is for a member
of the royal family to pick the first pear from Genovia's oldest pear
tree. This time, Mia will pick the first pear from the pear tree,
and Viscount Mabrey hatches a plan to humiliate Mia...right in front of
Genovia's press.
Welcome
to Parliament
This is the longest scene. This is where Mia sits in on a session of
Parliament without Queen Clarisse. Baron and Baroness von Troken are
asking Parliament for a loan to finance a luxury spa. Mia disagrees
with this, and suggests that Parliament use the building as an
orphanage. Seeing that Mia was unprepared to promote her idea of an
orphanage, Viscount Mabrey seizes the opportunity to make Mia look unfit
for the throne. As Viscount Mabrey is tearing into Mia for not being
prepared, Queen Clarisse and Charlotte sneak into the secret room to see
how Mia is doing. Clarisse sadly notes that Mia is no match for
Viscount Mabrey. A brief image from this scene was used in the
trailer - the one where Mia sits down and her foot accidentally hits
a button that adjusts the height of the chair the monarch sits in.
Nicholas
Cooks
Mia and Lord Nicholas are in the kitchen, discussing the kind of guys that
try to flirt with Mia. Nicholas tells her that he thinks she
is amazing, and Mia thinks that he is simply flirting with her, so she
quotes a line from Breakfast at Tiffany's and walks out of the
kitchen. This was another scene in which Nicholas displays his
cooking abilities.
Puppet
TV
It is night, and Mia is watching Elsie Kentworthy's show. On the
show, there are two puppets - one of them a Princess Mia puppet, the other
a Queen Clarisse puppet. This scene is probably inspired by the
British television show Spitting Image, which uses rubber puppets
to lampoon the British royals and other public figures. The Princess
Mia puppet trips over the throne and breaks it, and Mia is not too happy
to see herself made fun of on national television.
Parade
Prep
This scene occurs before the big Genovian Independence Day Parade.
Clarisse and an unhappy Mia are walking out of the palace and into the
royal limousine. The Queen notices a Mustang sitting in front of the
palace and Mia explains that it's for Lilly, who is riding in the parade
as well. The two maids, Birgitte and Birgitta are too fussy with
Mia, who just wants to get into the limousine without help.
King
Rupert's Ramp
At Princess Mia's 'bachelorette slumber party' Charlotte explains the
history behind the ramp everyone is sliding on.
The
Queen's Nerves
The Queen is standing alone in the main foyer, thinking about the wedding
preparations, when Charlotte appears at the top of the staircase with some
questions. The Queen's nerves get the best of her, and she snaps at
poor Charlotte, but apologizes right afterwards.
